Behind the work

Knock on Wood draws on the superstition of knocking on wood to protect good fortune after expressing a positive outcome. The piece explores what happens when that ritual is overlooked, forming a cautionary tale about good fortune and its reversal.

Choreographic approach

Retrogradation, or movement performed in reverse order, shapes individual sequences and the work as a whole, connecting the choreography to the narrative’s reversal of fortune.
